DIAMONDS BY PIAGET

THE SPARKLING BEAUTY OF THE MOST PRECIOUS OF STONES

Rare, pure and eternal, diamonds are the ultimate symbol of love. It was in Europe in the 15th century that the romantic tradition of offering a diamond ring as a token of love and commitment was born. In 1477, Princess Marie of Burgundy received this first proof of love from Archduke Maximilian of Austria. She placed the ring on the fourth finger of her left hand as, according to the Egyptian belief in the “vein of love”, it is said to be directly connected to the heart. Centuries later, diamonds still symbolize love.

THE 4CS - 4 QUALITY CRITERIA OF DIAMONDS

CARAT WEIGHT, COLOR, CLARITY AND CUT

CARAT WEIGHT

‟The measure of a diamond dream”

Piaget uses diamonds of a large range of carats. A carat weighs 0.2 grams, equivalent to the weight of the African carob bean, formerly used as a measuring unit in gold trading. The weight of the carat measures the precious nature of the diamond alongside the three other criteria of color, cut and clarity to which Piaget devotes great attention.

COLOR

"The brilliance of white"

The most precious diamonds are absolutely white. A scale is used to evaluate the color of each stone from D (exceptional white +) to Z (tinted color). Piaget only selects the rarest diamonds: between D and F for its center stones, and between F and G for paved setting.

CLARITY

‟The quest for absolute transparency”

The most wonderful diamonds are totally clear, with no cloud or crystal inclusions disturbing this serene limpidity. Each diamond is examined by our gemologists with the help of state-of-the-art instruments that magnify the size of the stone ten times. Our gemologists only select diamonds at the very top of the clarity scale, ranging from IF (Internally Flawless) to VVS (Very Very Small Inclusions).

CUT

‟The sparkling reflection of light”

A perfectly cut stone magnifies the light that is reflected on its numerous facets to give the diamond incomparable radiance. The expertise of Piaget’s gemologists enables them to select stones featuring a high-quality cut revealing the full beauty of the diamond.

GOVERNING PRINCIPLES

Piaget is a member of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS). This international project certifies and monitors all rough diamond transactions to ensure that diamond sales do not finance armed conflicts or criminal enterprises. Our commitment to the Responsible Jeweler Council is a further opportunity for Piaget to demonstrate its uncompromising diligence, as each diamond must comply with the strictest requirements. Piaget received RJC certification in September 2011 following a certification audit. In 2012, Piaget worked with the RJC to create a guarantee chain for gold and for platinum group metals.
