METIERS D’ART

“A watch is first and foremost a piece of jewellery.” With these few words, Yves G. Piaget summed up how Piaget’s savoir faire has been revolving around the Maison’s ability to put technicality at the service of beauty over a century.

As the mastery of ultra-thin movements allowed larger dials and more surface area for creative exploration, the Maison has worked with artists and maîtres d’art, allowing them to bring their vision and unique skills to one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery and watchmaking.

EXCEPTIONAL CRAFTS

Since 2006, the enamelling master Anita Porchet has collaborated with Piaget, lending to the Maison her unrivalled expertise in creating touches of miniature enamel– not to mention her patience and passion.

Porchet’s masterful cloisonné enamelling and her signature play of light, shadow and transparency bring to life exceptional creations such as the Métiers d’art Altiplano Moonphase and the Maison's yearly zodiac references.

Respecting Altiplano's remarkable thinness aesthetics, the creative designs had to be crafted on an infinitely small scale with the most sophisticated expert execution. Complemented by precious stones or gold engraving, the watches’ are rendered in exquisite and powerful details.

As an ode to the Vibrant Nature inspiration, Piaget invited the French artist Rose Saneuil in the creation of the Undulata watch.

This meticulous piece includes a dozen layers of straw, parchment sycamore, leather and elytron, patiently assembled by hand to create a mesmerizing around the off-center hours-minutes counter and the ultra-thin flying tourbillon carriage.

In 2023, the grand prix d’horlogerie de genève has chosen to recognize piaget’s expertise and dazzling creativity with the métiers d’art – undulata watch in the artistic crafts category.
