1270P movement
Description
Ref : 1270P
The 1270P movement is derived from two ultra-thin Piaget movements: the 600P movement, the world's thinnest hand-wound tourbillon movement, and the 1208P movement, the world's thinnest automatic movement, fitted with a micro-rotor. The 1270P movement is Piaget's first automatic, ultra-thin movement. It measures 5.55 mm in thickness and incorporates several technical and design innovations. It is a genuine Fine Watchmaking signature, one of the most symbolic complications in existence. Apart from the technical achievement of producing a highly complex mechanical movement of 269 components in an extremely small space – some wheels are barely more than 0.12 mm thick - the 1270P movement is also distinguished by its exceptional design. It confidently ignores the established codes of Fine Watchmaking by inversing its key elements. On the dial side, the off-center micro-rotor made in gold is open to full view and intertwines with the impressive off-center tourbillon carriage, creating the figure 8, the definitive lucky number. Also off-centered are the hour and minute hands, positioned at 5 o'clock and decorated with a sunburst guilloché motif. The delicate finishing of the movement is clearly visible: guilloché sunburst motif produced by laser, slender hour markers pointing to the off-centered hands, and underlined counters, oscillating weight and tourbillon in gold. The contemporary feel of the whole movement is counterbalanced by the traditional Fine Watchmaking decoration of the micro-rotor: a guilloché motif and Piaget coat-of-arms. The solid case-back is engraved with the Piaget coat-of-arms and the name of the 1270P movement. It includes two apertures: one for the power-reserve indicator, the other revealing the bottom of the tourbillon carriage
