A LEGACY OF ULTRA-THIN WATCHES SINCE 1874

Since the very beginning, Piaget has cultivated the art of ultra-thin watchmaking, like second nature. It is more than just a speciality. It is a state of mind, a culture, an identity that began with watch movements and has spread to all of Piaget’s designs over almost 150 years.

THE CONCEPT

60 years after the birth of the Maison's founding caliber 9P, which was only 2mn thin, Altiplano Ultimate Concept started as an idea, a vision, a dream. Not everyone believed it was possible, but the philosophy at Piaget, as Valentin Piaget always like to say, is “to do what has never been done before.”
After four years of research and development, on February 7th, 2017 at 7:47 pm, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept took its first “beat”. Measuring a mere 2mm including case and sapphire crystal, the timepiece filed no fewer than five patents, with wheels as thin as 0.12mm and the sapphire crystal down to a mere 0.2mm.
The timepiece won the prestigious Aiguille d’Or prize from the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2020, celebrating the Maison's s savoir-faire and expertise.

A CONSTANT REVOLUTION

6 years after the Altiplano Ultimate Concept was revealed as the thinnest watch in the world at that time, Piaget pushed its limit again with the revolutionary Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon for the Maison's 150 anniversary in 2024.

Ornamental stones have been a key signature of Piaget since the very beginning, made possible by the exceptional thinness of our calibers, which enable the integration of such creative elements into the dials.

Piaget's new Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon creation integrates ornamental stones into its record-breaking 2mm-thin profile. This exceptional timepiece features a harmonious blend of brownish and pink gold hues, accentuated by magnificent Tiger Eye fragments.
With the same thinness at 2mm and a diameter of 41.5mm, it shelters the beating heart of a flying tourbillon, which means it has to be able to cope with the 25% additional power required. Contrary to appearances, Piaget had to redesign 90% of the components of the original Altiplano Ultimate Concept and even develop new machinery to take on a this new technical and aesthetic dimension.

Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon is made to be worn. To be looked at. To remind its owner of the long history of the people and the Manufacture that made it. And finally, to make them wonder what challenges Maison Piaget will set itself next.
